The story is set in Welton Academy, a strict and traditional boys’ preparatory school. A new English teacher, John Keating, arrives with an unconventional teaching style that inspires his students to think for themselves, embrace poetry, and live passionately. Through his encouragement, a group of boys secretly revive the old club called the Dead Poets Society, where they meet to read poetry, share ideas, and explore their dreams.
As the boys gain confidence and independence, they begin to challenge the rigid expectations of their parents and the school. However, this freedom also leads to serious conflicts, particularly for Neil Perry, whose passion for acting clashes with his father’s strict plans for his future. The story explores themes of individuality, conformity, the power of art, and the importance of seizing the day (Carpe Diem).
